Identifying the transmission channel of SEPA direct debit orders to the bank

SEPA direct debit orders are transmitted to the bank, most often via the EBICS protocol (Electronic Banking Internet Communication Standard).

There are two EBICS protocols:
  • EBICS T with “detached signature”: the creditor must confirm the direct debit orders via his or her banking interface. Please get in touch with your bank to know more about the validation process.

This communication protocol is the one used by the payment gateway.

Note: for security-related reasons, direct debits can no longer be validated by fax as of January 2017.

  • EBICS TS with “attached signature”: Prior to orders transferring direct debit orders to the bank, the creditor signs them with a certificate delivered by a certification authority.

This protocol is not supported by the payment gateway.
